Moss Sporophyte Capsule

A moss sporophyte capsule rises on a thin stalk from a patch of moss on a piece of weathered wood. The photograph is rendered in grayscale with a shallow depth of field: the capsule and upper stalk are sharp against a smooth, pale gray background while the foreground moss and wood fall softly out of focus. The capsule's top shows a fine granular texture, visible as tiny speckles along its rim.
