Scarab Beetle Larva in Soil
A scarab beetle larva (white grub) lies partially buried in dark potting soil near the bottom of the frame. The translucent cream body and amber head stand out against rich black-brown earth, with low light catching the shiny segments and tiny hairs. Small soil grains and setae cling to the larva's rings and are clearly visible in the foreground.
