Polypore Shelf Fungus on Trunk

A cluster of polypore shelf fungi grows from the side of a tree trunk. Reddish-brown, leathery shelves project horizontally against the trunk's rough gray surface, with shallow focus turning the background into a warm beige blur. A single thin pine needle lies across the nearest shelf.
