Blue Chicory Flower Among Branches

A blue chicory flower grows on a thin stem among fallen branches and dry grasses. The single bright blue flower contrasts with pale gray, lichen-speckled twigs and faded brown and olive grasses under soft overcast light; it sits low in the left third of the frame. A few petal tips are slightly torn and dried seed pods sit above the bloom on the same stem.
