Yellow-striped Hoverfly on Log

A yellow-striped hoverfly (family Syrphidae) rests on a rough piece of decaying wood. The insect's bright yellow and black banded abdomen, large reddish eyes, and translucent iridescent wings are lit by soft natural light and framed with a shallow depth of field. A fine layer of dust and wood fibers is visible around its legs and the compound eyes dominate the close-up view.
