Pileated Woodpecker on Birch Trunk

A pileated woodpecker clings to a birch trunk near the lower right of the frame. Backlit foliage forms a translucent canopy against a pale blue sky while the white, black-marked birch runs vertically through the image and the bird's dark body and red crest stand out. The woodpecker's red crest peeks through a gap in the foliage and the birch's papery bark texture is clearly visible.
