Carpenter Bee on Weathered Wood

A carpenter bee clings to a vertical weathered wooden board near the right edge of the frame. The insect's glossy black abdomen and golden, fuzzy thorax stand out against the gray-brown grain of the wood, with soft daylight revealing pollen dust on its body and translucent brown wings. A fine scattering of pollen and tiny wood fibers coats its legs in this close-up view.
