Black Carpenter Ant Macro View

A black carpenter ant moves along a granular, sandy surface at the lower left of the frame. Its glossy black exoskeleton and short golden hairs catch cool, directional light; the body is sharply focused against a broad, soft gray-beige background. Tiny sand grains cling to the ant's front legs and mandibles in this frame.
