Pileated Woodpecker on Birch

A pileated woodpecker clings to the trunk of a white birch near a forked branch. Backlit, heart-shaped leaves glow a warm green against a pale blue sky while the birch's white bark shows dark horizontal markings. The bird's red crest and the curve of its bill are visible in the lower right of the frame.
