Bracket Fungus Releasing Spores

A bracket fungus is shedding a fine cloud of spores from the scalloped edge of its cap. The warm beige cap edge is rim-lit by sunlight and set against a deep blue-green, out-of-focus background, with the focus on the glowing rim and drifting particles. A thin silken thread crosses the cap and hundreds of dustlike spores trail away from the rim.
