Syrphid Hoverfly on Spikelet

A syrphid hoverfly rests on the tip of a grass spikelet with its wings splayed. Its orange-and-black banded abdomen and red compound eyes contrast with translucent, slightly iridescent wings and a soft green background; the subject sits low in a tall, vertical frame. Tiny lavender florets cluster around the stalk and the fly's wing veins are clearly visible.
