Turkey Vulture on Branch

A turkey vulture perches on a gnarled dead branch near the lower right of the frame. Its dark brown-black feathers and bare red head sit in soft even light against a smooth blue-gray sky, with twisted branches filling much of the composition. Lichen on the wood and the layered pattern of the bird's flight feathers are clearly visible, and the vulture tilts its head slightly toward the camera.
