White-breasted Nuthatch on Bark

A white-breasted nuthatch clings to an angled section of a tree trunk near a fork in the bark. The bird's gray-blue back, white face and black cap stand out against rough brown bark and a pale overcast sky; the frame is tightly cropped so the bark fills most of the image. A narrow vertical gap of sky between two plates of bark draws the eye toward the nuthatch's flattened posture.
