Liatris spicata Spike

Liatris spicata spike stands upright near the center of the frame against a dark background. Captured in black-and-white, the pale, finely curled filaments and tight buds are lit from the side with sharp focus on the column and a soft, out-of-focus backdrop. The upper third shows a dense mass of threadlike stamens curling outward from each small floret.
