Yellowjacket Wasp on Wood

A yellowjacket wasp clings to a vertical piece of weathered wood. Its black-and-yellow body and antennae occupy the right side of the frame, sharply focused against a soft gray-brown background with cool, even illumination. The compound eye and the fine hairs on the thorax are captured in crisp detail, and a small notch in the wood sits just above the head.
