Immature Pine Cone Close Up

An immature pine cone sits at the tip of a short branch. The photograph is rendered in black-and-white with soft, even light and a very shallow depth of field that leaves the cone's layered scales sharp against a blurred background. The triangular scales form a tight spiral at the lower right of the frame.
