Black Ant on Tree Trunk

A black ant crawls up the textured surface of a tree trunk near the left edge of the frame. The photograph is black-and-white: the trunk's coarse texture is sharply focused while the background falls into soft, out-of-focus grays and round highlights. Its antennae are lifted as it probes a ridge, and the legs are visible against small patches of lichen on the trunk.
