Peeling Birch Bark Layers

Peeling birch bark layers curl and overlap across the frame. The image is rendered in black-and-white with soft, diffuse light and a very shallow depth of field that leaves the further edges blurred. Tiny dark lenticel spots and a frayed, papery edge are visible along the nearest strip.
